With winter well and truly upon us, Christmas just around the corner and the dark nights drawing in, it’s time to switch things up.

At this time of year, all we want to do is pop our PJ’s on, curl up in our favourite chair and binge watch festive films until the 25th. But, what do you do if your house is far from cosy? While we’re not telling you to head to the shops and spend your entire monthly budget on making your house as snuggly as possible, there are some simple things you can do to improve your interiors this season.

Follow our simple tips below and you’ll be feeling that festive glow in no time!

Velvet

Is there anything more satisfying than running your hand along a soft piece of velvet? This winter, textures are bold– think a mustard throw or a blush chaise lounge. If a velvet sofa isn’t quite in your price range, why not try some simple accessories such as cushions or bedding? Pair with vintage style accessories, like reclaimed wood baskets or aged copper lights to avoid the whole Disney Princess vibe.Velvet Sofa Interior Tips Winter

Insulation is key!

With the temperatures outside dropping, there’s nothing worse than coming home after a long day to a freezing cold house. A simple but effective way to update your interior style and create a snug atmosphere this winter is by installing shutters on your windows or doors. Not only are they an attractive interior solution, but shutters actually reduce draughts and provide amazing heat insulation, keeping you toasty warm throughout winter and reducing those pesky heating bills – what more could you want?

LondonBlinds4U have a huge range of different styles available – from tier on tier shutters to café style shutters, there’s something for everyone. Unlike blinds, whose fabric can fade over time, resulting in a dated look, shutters are a timeless addition to your home – perfect for those living in busy areas who are looking for increased privacy or noise reduction.

Choosing Carpet for your Home

Whether you’re constructing a whole new extension or simply touching up your living room, a new carpet can make a massive difference to the look at feel of your space. There are so many things to consider when choosing your perfect carpet that it can be overwhelming, so we’ve put together this short guide to help you make the best choice. It can make such a huge different in helping your room look fantastic and become an environment into which you love to invite people. Surefit Carpet are on hand to help. They provide cheap carpet in Doncaster of the highest quality.

Should I choose carpet?

When considering what flooring you want for your home, you don’t just have to choose carpet simply because that’s what it was like before. There are a huge number of different flooring options that could also work and might be more effective. It’s all about considering what your requirements are and what you’re using a room for. For instance, carpet in a bathroom is rarely a good idea simply because carpet offers very little resistance to water and can easily become damaged if it frequently becomes wet. The same goes for your kitchen. Carpet is particularly inappropriate for kitchen because crumbs of food can easily fall into the carpet and are difficult to hoover up, as well as the carpet becoming wet or stained much more easily in this environment.

If you want something that is water resistant and much easier to clean, then laminate flooring is a viable alternative. It’s extremely versatile and comes in patterns that mimic wood, stone, tile or others. Due to its flexibility in design, it is also perfect for hallways, bedrooms, living rooms and just about any household space! It doesn’t offer the same comforting feel as carpet, nor the insulating benefits.

Carpets are a very good option for creating a more cosy space than what can be achieved with laminate flooring.

Colour

The colour of your carpet is one of the most important factors. This will make or break whether it looks good in your space, matches the colouring of your furniture and brings an overall pleasing effect. When considering the colour of your carpet, it’s important to bear in mind the light levels in the room. For rooms with little natural light, it’s often a good idea to choose a lighter coloured carpet, or if your room has dark coloured walls, a light carpet would perfectly off-set this appearance to create a pleasing feel to your space.

It’s also important to consider any pets that live in your house. If you have a black dog, for instance, any hairs that it drops will stand out much more clearly on a white or pale carpet, making the room look unclean much more easily. A pale carpet, such as cream, will also show stains and other dirt much more easily. If you have children that spill drinks or make mess, then perhaps a darker shade would work better.

Texture

Carpets come in different textures and thicknesses. The higher end, more luxurious carpets tend to be thicker. They provide greater insulation and feel softer and nicer underfoot, but they are often more expensive. Consider how much of a priority this is when you’re choosing your carpet. It’s also a good idea to visit a showroom so you can touch and feel the carpets yourself before making your decision. This will give you a much better idea of a carpet’s texture.

Cost

The cost of a carpet is, of course, always going to be a factor, particularly if you’re looking to buy flooring for your whole home. With most carpet shops, you have to also consider the price of underlay and fitting. Surefit Carpets, however, offer a very clear no hidden fees policy. This means that all the extras are included in the price that is on the label — you don’t have to do any complex calculations or worry about forgetting to factor something in!
